Moody dramatic color is PERFECT in a bedroom, but you need do do a few design maneuvers to pull it off or the color can be overwhelming.
TIPS:
Pick the perfect moody color. This one is called Retreat by Sherwin Williams
Paint a lighter ceiling color so the room does not feel like a cave. This ceiling is Pure White by Sherwin Williams and the lighter stripe is Greek Villa by Sherwin Williams
Paint light window trim, doors and baseboards
Cover up a good portion of the walls: Bring in light fabrics like a tall upholstered headboard, light color duvet, light color sheets and pillows & HUGE light art. We staged this Santa Cruz historical home so we did not use curtains, but if we were designing the space for a client, we definitely would add light color curtains.
Add metallics: We used a brass lamp, and a painting with metallic gold paint
Add white: white end tables, white lamps, white bedding, white art
Add black: black is darker than the walls and makes them appear lighter to our human brains, plus adding something black in every room is a good idea
A good mirror- every room needs one and especially a darker color room. This one was doubly good because it is also metallic.
A light rug brightens the space
Layer textures with wood, baskets, metals, glass and cozy textures with pillows, throws, etc.
To nail my colors I use giant peel and stick paint samples by Samplize. They sell Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, PPG and Farrow and Ball. Give them a try! It saves money and mess compared to purchasing loads of testers.
